Family Services Ottawa Fundraiser ‘Artistic Resilience: Live Music and Art Sale’ in support of Art as Therapy and artists facing mental health challenges.

June 20, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm

$45.00

Art is a significant contributor to our mental wellness. I invite you to help build the resilience of individuals, families and Ottawa-area artists by attending the Family Ottawa Services (FSO)’s fundraiser ‘Artistic Resilience’ on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the Orange Art Gallery, 290 City Centre Avenue, Ottawa from 6:30 to 10 pm. It will feature live performances by local musicians Tara Holloway and Kristine St.-Pierre; and, an Art Sale with artworks being donated by FSO clients, patrons and staff as well as local area artists such as Robert Hinchley, Rick Madore, Kelly Dixon, Mark Patton, Susan Cartwright, Tim Deslippe and Alison Fowler. There will be a cash bar and light bites catered by Krackers Katering; a social enterprise catering business that employs persons with barriers to employment.

All monies raise from ticket sales and donations will go directly to FSO to ensure the continuation of Family Services’ Ottawa’s art as therapy and Art Studio programs and services. The latter program provides local Ottawa artists facing mental health challenges with a safe space to create, transportation, professional art instruction and workshops, as well as help with framing and exhibiting their artworks. Your financial contribution will make a difference! If you purchase 4 tickets to this event, for example, you will ensure FSO may provide professional art supplies for one of the artists for one year!

Why are your contributions important? FSO clients benefit from having access to art as therapy along with receiving counselling.  And, they help bring about real change in people’s lives, as expressed by the participating artists themselves:

  • Because of the Studio I haven’t been in the hospital.

  • I don’t want to paint at home I’d rather come here. Other people encourage you. I don’t like to be isolated at home. The studio is part of my week and part of my recovery I am always on time.  I know that the studio is here for me. It is an important part of my recovery. No one is judgemental.  It is a positive space.

  • Art is a healthy interest a positive avenue to be involved in rather than drugs and drinking which I used to do. Art has opened up my mind to try new things and not to be afraid to experiment. Art is soothing mentally. It helps me and pulls me out of my anger, depression and anxiety.

Tickets are $45.00. You may purchase them and make an on-line donation on either the FSO event website or Facebook page.

Thank you, in advance, for considering this request. If you have any questions regarding the event, do not hesitate to contact Deirdre Speers, Executive Director of Family Services Ottawa at: 613-725-3601, ext. 115 or Siobhan Arnott, Event Coordinator at: 613-899-9378.
